A throwback OOTD, and I'm back!...I think

I have allowed blogging as a priority to fall by the wayside as of late - but never fear, super-wide and very far-reaching readership, hope has come! I have renewed vigor in the blogging side of things and present to you yet another OOTD. Let us hope that this vigor remains, for I have many a post for y'all to look forward to. This includes shoe unboxings. Three of them. Yeah, you heard right. Or read, rather....three. I have bought three pairs of glorious shoes that are dying to be featured here. But anyway:

I put this outfit together a while ago - as you can see, this was when I was growing my hair out and hadn't gotten that lovely golden copper balayage through the ends of it yet. This was a time when I was still experimenting with things in my wardrobe, and when I thought my creepers were super edgy and alternative. I now wear them more than my sneakers and flats....they're just a great, solid shoe. And they add height. A whole 2 inches of it. And that, makes a difference.

Additionally, this was also the time I think I was getting as close as I am to my everyday style these days. Clean and simple. Though it's kind of funny thinking about it now, I think I've worn that pleather skirt out a grand total of 2 times in my 3 years of owning it. I am so sentimental with my clothes.

I think I've come a long way in terms of my style. I worry and think less about looking strange or purposely looking like the baddest bad-ass out there, and I'm just dressing for who I am. Even if on that particular day I am competing for the world title of world's laziest slob...

OOTD: Sugar and Spice, and All Things Nice!

I have returned! Gosh has this semester been busy. I could go on and on about it but who wants to hear me whine about how much trouble I'm having designing a mist eliminator for a desalination plant? Not many people? Good. Let's talk about fun things! :)

So I've been playing a little bit with the concept of 'sugar and spice' - styling a generically sweet or demure outfit with a hint of edge or 'spice', in the form of spikes, studs, leather and other such badassery. This time, I chose a pair of chunky boots which I accidentally received as a hand-me-down, so they won't be in my wardrobe for much longer, but I'll wear them here and there while I still can :P

I chose a winter outfit because it's still damn cold here in Australia! And that dress? Doesn't have a collar. Yes, that's right guys, it's a detachable collar, and it's AWESOME:

I bought this lovely accessory on eBay and use it mostly in the winter, since it's so snug.

OOTD: The Windproof Anorak

The past few days in Sydney have been incredibly windy - sleeping at night with the wind howling and rustling the trees outside can be a little unnerving. But thankfully, during the day I have an amazing anorak that I bought in Hong Kong last year which blocks the wind from my body. It's one of the thickest jackets I own, it's lined with fleece, covers my tush and has big, deep pockets and a hood. What's not to love?

I'm unsure if the jacket itself is 'branded' or not, since the patch there is so wonderfully spelled. But I picked this baby up in the Ladies Market a year ago with the help of my mums haggling skills. She got the price down from $500HKD to $320, which is amazing! I kept the top of my head warm with this super cute beanie from sportsgirl, beanies are honestly one of the greatest things for covering up a bad hair day.

What sorts of things are in your outfit arsenal on a cold and windy day? I love how secure and warm I feel in a giant jacket, even if it can potentially swallow you up a little.

OOTD: A typical day at uni

Yeah, I forgot to post yesterday.....*runs and hides in shame*

I wanted to post an outfit today of something a little more streamlined, a little more casual and much more relaxed then a lot of the outfits I post here. The truth is I'm at uni 5 days a week, and in terms of practicality that can make it hard to wear something elaborate or fancy. In light of this, I wanted to show you all the kind of look I have been going for in general the last few weeks of uni:

Those jeggings have finally died on me - there are holes on the back where my pockets are, and they're no longer wearable. I also recently had my absolute favourite pair of black skinny jeans ever wear out on me - there's a large fray where my bottom is and my mum informed me its not fixable. So I guess this gives me a great reason to go shopping soon >:)

I'm generally very laid back when I go to uni - jeans and a shirt, sometimes I'll pick a pair of combat boots or my hellraisers if I'm especially daring, and if it's cold I don't leave the house without a scarf. This particular one has been in my collection for about 5 years now and still going strong.

What kind of style do you have when you're at school? Are you able to dress freely, are there any dress codes you have to follow, or do you feel like you're less adventurous with your clothing choices for practicality?

We are back! OOTD: Remnants of Summer

Well, half of us is back (is? are? half of us....return?) - Dot here, and I am one lucky duck this semester, I don't have any exams!

So while the rest of my friends and Keyys have to endure exam period, lucky me gets to take over a little bit for the blog. Although this post doesn't exactly fit with our regular posting schedule, I figured since our hiatus announcement was almost exactly a month ago to this day, it's pretty fitting.

I thought I'd bring us back to regular posting with an outfit! I wore this outfit many a month ago, before winter hit us like a slap in the face.....we had an unseasonally (is that a word? My English today.....) warm autumn, temperatures hit up to 30 occasionally. I took this opportunity to bust out as much of my summer gear as possible before it finally started to settle into much cooler temperature:

Hats - who knew right?! I've gotten very attached to this hat I bought for sale at Dangerfield, its incredibly cute and a fun way to keep my face out of the sun. I thought my outfit was a little too feminine to my tastes hence the creepers, and I threw on a generic cardigan to tie it altogether and to keep me warm if I need it when the AC is blasting indoors.

So I guess that's it for our first post back! You'll be seeing much of me until Keyys finishes her exams - we haven't seen each other in a while but we plan on meeting up so maybe we'll take some sneaky outfit photos together while we're at it.

To finish off with a question for you all, what sort of mindset do you have when seasonal changes are happening from summer to winter? Winter to summer? Do you get excited to try new trends, or do you cling on as long as you can to the current season?

OOTD: You and me, baby we're nothing but mammals

Happy Saturday everyone! We made it through another week :D I've noticed the weather is getting steadily cooler here in Australia - the remnants of summer really are beginning to disappear. The weather here is kind of hard to dress for sometimes, especially if you're out all day, since it's usually cooler in the early morning and evening and quite hot in the afternoon. The temperature difference can sometimes even be more than 10 degrees which is rather insane.

With summer fast disappearing I'm throwing together some of my last summer/spring/warmer weather in general outfits, and I'm warming up to a pair of wax pants I bought recently on sale for $15:

Anime, Games & Fashion

As a fashion blog, it's important to note trends and keep on top of popular opinion when it comes to trench coats, galaxy print and cuffed jeans. Sometimes, though, it's important to challenge what people think. Generally in gaming and anime culture, girls are categorised into two groups:

• Girls who are genuinely interested 
• Girls who aren't

Which is fine, this is a perfectly natural grouping. However, society has dictated that those in the first group cannot also be interested in fashion and maintaining a nice appearance. Those in the second group will sometimes enter the culture so that they can preen for the boys they are surrounding themselves with. Girls who make an effort can be placed in the second simply because they make an effort to look nice. 

I'd like to suggest that these hobbies and fashion aren't mutually exclusive. There'some pretty obvious ways they coincide. For example, cosplay. Dressing up is turned into an art form and how you present yourself is rather important. Fashion styles, such as lolita, have been inspired by anime.

Part of the reason I think these stereotypes exist is because gaming/anime can take a lot of time. Attending anime marathons or LANs which can run for a few hours may seem like something to pull the tracky dacks out for however being comfortable doesn't mean looking bad, being dirty or being a slob. If I'm going to makesure to present myself when spending hours at university, why would it be any different when I'm hanging out with friends for a long gaming session? 

Are these stereotypes things that have influenced you? Do you think anime, gaming and fashion should always be separate interests? 

OOTD: Mint and Galaxy Print

They say the galaxy print is so last season - I for one am still in love with the print, but I think it's highly dependent on how out there and dramatic the actual galaxy print is. There's so much variety out there in terms on material, type of clothing item and it can make the whole trend in general look a little tacky and, especially now, a little outdated.

With this in mind, I threw together a quick outfit that I think is suitable for a lot of occasions and makes use of a more subtle galaxy print:

OOTD: Fun & Frizzy

There's a constant war against frizzy hair, be it by the use of products or straighteners or some quick fix methods. My hair's naturally quite frizzy and while I do succumb to the pressure sometimes it seems a bit silly. This outfit was designed to work with the natural way my hair falls when it's out.

Happy Saturday everyone! It's the weekend, finally, and I threw together an outfit which I think is great for a house party or any generic casual night out:

OOTD: Engineering Chic

This is just a really casual outfit thrown together for going to uni. Enclosed shoes for lab access, long sleeves to protect from mozzies/cold and some ripped jeans to add some style. It's pretty simple but keeps me comfy while still letting me feel 'chic'.

It's definitely an outfit that is designed for practicality however I don't think it's a case of practicality first, style second. Some people think it should be 50/50. Personally, I think that because I love what I'm doing dressing for my degrees quirks helps imbue my outfits with personality.
