About

So you've stumbled upon this blog of ours - but who exactly are we?!

My name is Dot and I'm a sometimes thinker, sometimes DIYer, and hardcore tea drinker. I hail from Sydney, currently in my final year of a B. Engineering/B. Arts in the Chemical Engineering stream, and majoring in Chinese. I started this blog together with my best friend Keyys, who I’ve known since high school. We have always liked to keep in touch by sending letters, and generally expressing ourselves to each other through words, since we live so far apart. We thought a blog like this would be a fun way to continue doing so and to share it with whoever is interested to read it :)

So I'm Keyys. I live in Newcastle where I am studying electrical engineering. This is also my last year. My interests are vast and varied, I'm more of a little bit of everything then a lot of something type of person. What can you expect from me? Stories, poems, words about study, words about food, and words about tea. Tea has been a, perhaps surprisingly, important part of my friendship with Dot. We drink tea when we study together, we drink tea when we meet up, and we drink tea when the important stuff needs discussing. There's nothing quite like a hot cup of tea to get the feelings going.

And why is your blog called 'two in solitude'?

Our blog title reflects the fact that we still feel as if we're together even though physically we are quite far apart - something like 160km! It's also reminiscent of a quote we found that seemed to fit us to a T.

"I hold this to be the highest task for a bond between two people: that each protects the solitude of the other." (Ranier Maria Rike)

We're the kind of people who love to have fun but definitely need some down time - some of our most precious time together has been spent sitting quietly in the same room. We thought these ideas were captured by the phrase 'two in solitude' and hope you enjoy being privy to something so special it had to be shared.
